John Krenus
The story of John Krenus is not a short one, but it is indeed a very inspiring one. Born in the City of Toronto, John was the son of Slovenian immigrants who had recently moved to Canada for a better life. With a carpenter as a Father, John and his three brothers were exposed to construction at a very early age, and all jumped into the business out of school. After slowly moving westward across the country, the family landed in Edmonton for several years before finally settling in North Delta.
John worked for many years in his early twenties framing new homes for various development companies as an independent contractor all throughout the lower mainland alongside one of his brothers, Joe Krenus. During this period, John was exposed to every aspect of new construction, and the influential brands that were behind it.
With years of experience, John decided to formally start his own brand and make his mark on the local development scene. In 1981, JMK Construction was founded as a residential framing and development company named after his baby girl.
JMK was an astounding success, and became the go-to name for local developers to partner with for their forming and framing needs.
After 15+ years of being in the new construction business, Krenus saw that buildings across Vancouver were beginning to fail. The late 90’s in Vancouver gave rise to the term ‘leaky condo’, and so John decided to re-brand the company and push to become the premier solution for fixing these low-rise, wood-framed buildings that needed attention - Common Ground was born.
Fast forward to today, Common Ground has become a multi-faceted construction company specializing in building envelope work, and is widely considered by local engineering firms to be one of the most trusted and reliable names in the industry.
John Krenus continues to work alongside Joshua and Jessica as the leader of the company.
